EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Extra Curricular & Social Related Activities
We develop ourselves intellectually, emotionally, physically and morally. We rejoice in the talents and abilities we have been given, and respect those talents and abilities which God has given to others.
At St. Virgil Academy & MCJS boys and girls are welcome to attend the many teams and clubs we provide.
Spirituality - Boy & Girl Altar Servers
Children in grades 4-8th are welcome to serve at School Liturgies, and weekly Masses at St. Virgil Parish.
Sprirtuality - Children & Parents Rosary Group
Children and Parents can join together in prayer reciting the Holy Rosary every Wednesday after school (3pm) in St. Virgil's Parish Church. Parents join each other in prayer every Wednesday morning after the conclusion of the school morning prayers (8am), in St. Virgil Parish Church.
Technology - Media Club
MCJS New Media Club meet at Morris Catholic High School once a week, under the direction of Mr. Matt Alpaugh. The kids have fun learning how to interview, videotape, and create with technology. MCJS Students in grades 4-8th are welcome to join.
Public Speaking - Forensics
Our Students compete with Catholic Schools in Morris County and in the New Jersey Consortium of Schools for Gifted Children all throughout the school year. Students in 4th – 8th grade can participate in the competitions, which are usually held in November, January, and March. The students compete in various public speaking categories such as Interpretive Reading, Declamation, and Original Oratory.
Performing Arts - SVA & MCJS Theater
Our school holds its time honored annual plays Fall, Halloween, Christmas - The Nativity Play, Lent – The Passion Play, and Spring Musical for Parents, Relatives, and Our Parishioners to enjoy.
Band/Music
Boys and Girls in grades 4-8 are welcome to join. The students perform in band recitals and are instructed by Mr. Paul Haase of Haase Instrumental Music Program.
Boys and Girls Grades 4-8 are welcome to join. The students enter the Chess Tournament School Consortium of New Jersey, and other events in the area.
Talent Show
Boys and Girls K-8th grade are welcome to perform in our spring show.
Student Government
Students 4-8th grade can choose to participate in the Student Council and be elected by their peers as class representatives. The Student Council raises and brings awareness through education of issues such as poverty, global warming, and how each and every student can help. The students also help to organize school dances and The Fun Fair.
The Buddy System
In an effort to foster camaraderie and mutual-service among the students, we have a “Big Brother/Big Sister” Program. It pairs Kindergarteners and Eight Graders, as well as First and Seventh Graders, and so on. These students usually come together for the school Liturgies, assemblies, and various other activities throughout the year.
Community Service
Each child participates in outreach community service projects. There are food and clothing drives held regularly to benefit local organizations such as The Battered Women Shelter in Morristown, The Interfaith Food Pantry, and global efforts like our annual Haiti Food Drive.
Girl Scouts / Brownies
The Girl Scout Troops are very active after school and in the community. Troops include K through 8, and meet one to two times a month.
Boy Scouts / Cub Scouts
Cub Scout Pack 57 consists of boys in Tiger Cubs through Weblos (grades 1-5). It is made up of several Dens and meets once a month. The Scouts have many community service projects throughout the year.
